History of the II Medical School

From the past to the future

Since the founding of Karazin University on January 29, 1805, the School of Medicine has been operating at it, providing training for high-class doctors who have gone down in human history thanks to their invaluable contribution to the development of medical science and practice: Nobel laureate and immunologist I. I. Mechnikov, therapist D. F. Lambl, surgeons P. M. Shumlyansky, V. F, Grube and M. P. Trinkler, obstetrician I. P. Lazarevich, ophthalmologist L. L. Hirshman, physiologist V. Ya. Danilevsky and many others.

Revival and development of medical education at Karazin University

In 1993, the School of Medicine was revived at Karazin University, which allowed, in the best traditions of classical university education, to create a single, holistic system of training future doctors, which is the embodiment of the concept of the Karazin Academic Triad: an interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary union of science, education and practice in a single educational and professional environment.

For the period from 2022 to 2025, the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education was created at the Faculty of Medicine and the training of higher education applicants in new areas was initiated: I1 Dentistry, I4 Medical Psychology, I6 Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Technologies and I7 Therapy and Rehabilitation.

The first years of development of the II Medical School of Karazin University

The launch of educational activities to train higher education applicants in the areas of I1 Dentistry, I4 Medical Psychology, I6 Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Technologies and I7 Therapy and Rehabilitation, continuous development and scaling of postgraduate medical education to create the prerequisites for the creation of the II Medical School.

By the decision of the Academic Council of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University dated May 26, 2025, Protocol No. 14, put into effect by the order of the rector of Karazin University dated 05/28/2025 No. 0114-1/26, from 07/01/2025. the II Medical School was created.

Since its establishment, the II Medical School of Karazin University has provided training for higher education applicants in the specialties I1 Dentistry, I4 Medical Psychology, I6 Medical Diagnostics and Treatment Technologies and I7 Therapy and Rehabilitation, training of interns in internships in several specialties, advanced training and continuous professional development of doctors of medical and dental specialties.

Since its establishment, the II Medical School has had a Center for Postgraduate Medical Education, which coordinates and organizes the work of the Medical and II Medical Schools in the field of postgraduate medical education of healthcare workers.

The II Medical School and the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education - new pages in the history of postgraduate medical education at Karazin University

From July 1, 2025, the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education was transferred to the newly established II Medical School of Karazin University. Since then, the Center has been coordinating the work of the scientific and pedagogical teams of the Medical and II Medical Schools in the field of postgraduate medical education.

Despite the challenges of the time, innovations in the system of continuous professional development of healthcare workers and the rapid growth of requirements for the quality of educational initiatives in postgraduate medical education, the Center continues its activities, expands the list of educational offers and constantly works to improve the quality of education!

Promising areas of work of the Center are the expansion of international contacts, internationalization of educational initiatives, increase of educational offers in already implemented areas of activity, international certification of teachers and training programs, etc.
