Academic Council of the II Medical School

The Academic Council of the II Medical School is a collegial governing body that manages the activities of the School at Karazin University, determines its scientific directions, approves educational programs and resolves issues of organizing the educational process.

The formation, composition, tasks, functions and features of the functioning of the Academic Council of the II Medical School are regulated by the Statute of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” in its current version.

Composition of the Academic Council of the II Medical School

The Academic Council of the II Medical School is a collegial governing body, which, in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of Karazin University dated August 29, 2025, Protocol No. 22, includes:

1) Dean;

2) Associate Deans;

3) Heads of Departments;

4) Head of the Trade Union;

5) Head of the Trade Union of Students, Postgraduate Students, Doctoral Students;

6) Head of the Student Self-Government

7) 2 elected representatives from each department and 3 elected representatives from among higher education students studying at the II Medical School.

Functions of the Academic Council of the II Medical School

According to the Statute of the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the Academic Council of the II Medical School:

1) determines the prospects for the development of the faculty;

2) decides on the organization of the educational process at the faculty;

3) determines the general directions of the faculty’s scientific activity;

4) elects by secret ballot to the positions of scientific and pedagogical workers in accordance with the Regulations, which are approved by the decision of the Academic Council of the University;

5) recommends by secret ballot persons for the positions of heads of departments;

6) agrees on the candidacies of the deputy deans of the faculty;

7) considers, taking into account the positions of the student self-government bodies of the faculty, educational programs and curricula, and also recommends them for approval to the Academic Council of the University;

8) approves and submits working curricula for approval to the rector (vice-rector by area of ​​activity);

9) approves the programs of academic disciplines;

10) recommends by secret ballot scientific and pedagogical, scientific and pedagogical workers for the awarding of academic and honorary titles to them;

11) considers and recommends for approval by the Academic Council of the University the Regulations on the faculty and its departments;

12) considers the reports of scientific and pedagogical workers;

13) submits to the meeting of the faculty’s labor collective a proposal to dismiss the dean;

14) submits to the rector a reasoned submission on the early termination of the contract with the head of the department;

15) considers the issue of creating and developing educational and production bases for professional training of students and bases of practice;

16) considers proposals on the structure of the faculty, its renaming, reorganization and liquidation of its structural units;

17) recommends research works for inclusion in the thematic plan of scientific research and development of the university;

18) approves reports on research works;

19) considers and recommends for approval by the Academic Council of the university the results of the certification of scientific workers;

20) provides recommendations to applicants for doctoral studies for consideration at a meeting of the Academic Council of the University;

21) considers and recommends for approval by the Academic Council of the University the topics of doctoral dissertations;

22) approves the topics and scientific supervisors of dissertations for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy;

23) considers and recommends for approval by the Academic Council of the University the candidacies of scientific consultants of doctoral dissertations;

24) considers reports of postgraduate and doctoral students;

25) considers and recommends for approval educational, scientific and other publications;

26) recommends research projects for participation in competitions of various levels;

27) hears the results of the faculty’s research work for the year;

28) initiates the nomination of faculty employees for state, departmental and other awards in accordance with the Regulations approved by the University Academic Council;

29) considers other issues within its competence and not contradicting the University Charter;

30) decisions of the Faculty Academic Council are published on the official website of the faculty.
