The provider of educational initiatives of the II Medical School in the field of postgraduate medical education and continuous professional development of healthcare workers is a separate structural unit of the School – the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education. The Center provides training for future healthcare professionals at all levels of postgraduate education.
Educational activities in the field of postgraduate medical education are provided by the Karazin Schools of Postgraduate Medical Education – interdepartmental and interfaculty scientific and pedagogical communities, where interdisciplinary teams, strengthening each other’s potential, create a unique educational and professional environment for the sustainable professional development of healthcare workers of all categories.
Today, the Center trains interns in 16 specialties I2 Medicine, I1 Dentistry and I3 Pediatrics. The training of interns is carried out according to unique training programs that fully meet the requirements of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, allow you to fully master the knowledge and master the practical skills stipulated by the qualification characteristics of a particular medical profession, and are based on the latest evidence-based scientific research.
An undoubted advantage of the Karazin internship training programs is the integration of additional components into them – simulation training blocks, which allow you to expand the list of skills and competencies of interns through the use of modern simulation equipment.
During the implementation of educational activities in the field of internship training, the Center has successfully trained more than 400 interns in 18 medical specialties. Currently, about 280 future doctors are undergoing internship training.
The training of doctors in the cycles of secondary medical specialization is carried out in almost 40 medical specialties, which, combined with measures of continuous professional development of healthcare workers in over 200 areas, makes the training of medical professionals at Karazin University “seamless” and continuous. Mandatory components of the training of doctors at these measures are the broad integration of modern simulation and virtual technologies into the educational process and the development of practical skills in real clinical practice at the university’s clinical facilities.
Thus, even after receiving a higher education diploma and completing internship training, our graduates have the opportunity to return to Karazin University throughout their professional careers to acquire a new medical specialty or improve their knowledge, skills, and professional competencies within the existing specialty.
During its existence, the Karazin Center for Postgraduate Medical Education has provided secondary medical specialization to over 1,000 doctors and provided advanced training within current specialties for almost 10,000 healthcare workers.
A separate, highly sought-after area of activity of the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education is the training of persons with higher non-medical education who work in the field of health care in specialization cycles in 11 specialties. In these cycles, persons who have received higher education in non-medical specialties (“Psychology”, “Biology”, “Biology and Biochemistry”, “Physical Education, Sports and Human Health” and others) can obtain knowledge and skills that allow them to work in health care institutions and occupy relevant positions, thus changing the vector of their professional activity and dedicating their lives to preserving and restoring the health of the population.
Extremely popular among this contingent of persons are specialization cycles in the specialties “Clinical Psychology”, “Psychotherapy”, “Physical Therapy”, “Ergotherapy” and almost all specialties of medical and laboratory work in the field of health care.
Since the beginning of educational activities in this area, almost 500 healthcare workers have been trained, who already work in healthcare institutions and willingly return to Karazin University to acquire new knowledge and improve their professional skills.
